When I think of my Brooks running shoes that I got from ZbSports.com , it brings me back to a time where my Brooks and I were very intimate friends as we traveled through life together in my high school athletic days. This post is going to take a journey down memory lane with me and my Brooks running shoes.
Today, just happens to be one of the most exciting mornings in the lives of any NY state high school cross country athlete. That’s because today marks the 2010 NYSPHAA Cross Country State meet in Pawling, NY. It’s a special day to me as well because my high school is getting ready to win their first NYS championship. Back in my days of training with my Brooks and competing with my Brooks, we never made it this close to achieving this feat. Yet, it looks like today could be the day for the Blue Bison in Pawling, NY. It’s nice to be able to feature a winning story and so this morning I will sit back and relax with my old pair of Brooks’ (for nostalgia sake) and wish these youngsters the best of luck. If our high school pulls off this victory, it would be the first state championship they have ever won in any sport for the history of the school. So my Brooks and I are hoping for the best. It’s great to see an event like this be able to bring together athletes, teachers, parents, alums, and community members to take part in a wonderful event such as this. The race will be a 5K race and will be covered by Armory Track.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Youth soccer is an incubator for runners
Paul Wright has plenty of experience identifying running talent in young soccer players.
Wright is a veteran professional soccer player who has played for multiple incarnations of the San Diego Sockers and is still on their active roster at the age of 41. For years now, he has also worked training athletes from the youth level right on up to the NFL.
One day, Wright was training some children at Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach and noticed a solitary girl running around the track. It was Taylor Seamans, a club soccer player with the San Diego Surf who knew some of the girls that Wright trained.
Wright saw something in her that day and recalled telling Seamans, "I think you might want to try out for my girls track team."
A few years ago, Wright started a track team called Speed to Burn that gave the soccer players he was training — as well as athletes in sports such as basketball, football and lacrosse — a competitive running outlet.
Last spring, competing for Speed to Burn, Seamans won a San Diego Junior Olympic title in the 400 with a time of 59.18 seconds. As an eight-grader she ran a time that would rank her somewhere among the top 30 or 40 high school runners in the county.
