The plan was to visit my friend in Wyoming, where our summer vacations were spent hunting for jade. I got laid off work right after Thanksgiving. The trip had to be canceled; I called her saying I couldn't afford the trip. Wasn't sure if Santa would make it that year. No jobs could be found, the packing plant would call us back to work, eventually.
Within days boxes started arriving from Wyoming, not from my friend's address. Day after day, boxes arrived, big and small! I opened the boxes to find wrapped presents, my sons' names on them. I tried hiding the boxes from the kids but just didn't have that much storage space. Every night after the boys were in bed I'd put the gifts that we received that day under the tree. The boys believed Santa came every night and were so anxious to open the presents. I told them if they did Santa would stop bringing them, so they waited impatiently until Christmas. The very last box we received had a very small box for me.
