Lone Oak in Rochester celebrates 50th anniversary on Aug. 25
ROCHESTER — On Saturday, Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lone Oak Ice Cream at 175 Milton Road (Route 125) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. There will be hot dogs, Capt'n Eli's root beer floats, cotton candy, face painting, giveaways, Jim the Balloon Guy, fun activities and more.
There will also be a raffle, giving a chance to win a Flow snowboard signed by snowboarder Scotty Lago, who took a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Scotty is the grandson of Lone Oak's owner, Michael Lago. All proceeds will benefit St. Charles Children's Home.
According to Manager Kenneth Viel, Lone Oak was started in 1962 by Ernest and Vasilia Bellemeur. Their family operated it until 1976, when they sold Lone Oak to the Lago family, who still own and operate it today.
When Lone Oak first opened, the main route to the Mount Washington Valley passed by, with tourists heading north on a Friday, and coming back on a Sunday, ensuring a steady flow of customers.
